Acer palmatum ‘Moonfire’ Japanese Maple

This upright, deep red, almost purple, Japanese maple is an excellent choice when you are looking for an upright tree that can easily reach 12 to 15 feet tall. The leaves emerge in the spring with a deep red color that holds well all summer long, all the way into the fall.
Some seem to think this tree is superior to Bloodgood for hotter climates. The plant that I have featured in this photo is growing in our nursery, in full sun. The small spots on the leaves are harmless and the result of overhead watering in the nursery.
For the most we try to do all of our watering really early in the day but our first year at the new location was a bit of a challenge. We had to have a new well installed, irrigation lines installed and as all of that was happening we watered when we could.
Despite those mid day waterings our Japanese maples held up well considering they were also freshly transplanted into the nursery. Despite all of that, they held up incredibly well and I promise you new photos of “Moonfire’ coming soon.

Mike,
I Love Jappanesse Myrtles but I live in Hot Texas and they do not do that great here. Also they are extremely expensive to buy and have them die on you. Any suggestions? I would like to buy several of them at 1.35 each.

Anna, my advice is to buy them small and provide some shade for them the first few years. Keep them watered during the summer months. Details about buy at wholesale are here: https://backyardgrowers.com/backyard-income-opportunity/
